Giving Thanks

CGGC Executive Director Lance Finley

We all have long lists of reasons to express gratitude at this time of year. We could go on and on about the Lord’s provision and care for us. We all can tell stories of how we’ve seen the Lord at work in our lives and the lives of others over the past year. We all have lists of reasons why we should express our gratitude both this week and every week of the year. We could fill up page after page with the blessings we’ve experienced and the many reasons why we each should offer thanks.

I love the simplicity of Psalm 107:1:

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.

We are thankful because the Lord is good. He’s not fickle or petty. He’s certainly not wicked or vile. He’s not overbearing or harsh. He is good! He is blameless. He is righteous and just. He can be trusted. He demonstrates His goodness over and over again in His patience with us. He is incapable of being anything less than good. I can be bad. Many of us can be downright awful at times. Our God is always good.

His love endures forever. It is eternal. It is unrelenting. It is persistent and inexhaustible. God keeps loving us. He doesn’t stop. He doesn’t grow cold. His love never wears out. His capacity to love is beyond what we can fully comprehend. His love never fails.

Today I’m thankful for much. Above all, I’m thankful for God’s goodness and never ending love.

Christ’s Peace,

Lance
